Max Brunner—Skylighter FireworX Director/Display Designer
Max is the Director of Skylighter FireworX and has built his business from humble beginnings into Queensland’s most trusted and sort after pyrotechnics display company. His dedication to Fireworks started at a small age, and after leaving university as a Civil Engineer, Max turned his passion into a reality. Max has pioneered the development and production of Aquatic Effects that are now used around the world. In 2013 Max was voted in as the vice president of the Qld Fireworks Advisory Committee, a group formed to liaise with the Department of Mines and Energy with a special focus on Safety and Close Proximity effects. This extensive work allowed Max and Skylighter to fire the first fireworks display from the roof of Suncorp Stadium with 52,000 people below.
Over the past 6 years Max has been the Skylighter Project Manager for the New Year’s Eve Fireworks in Brisbane. His knowledge of pyrotechnic products and event production logistics are of the highest standard, allowing him to efficiently lead an entire production team through large scale pyrotechnic displays from concept to completion.
Nick Kozij— Major Project Manager
Nick has been in the Events industry for over 15 years. He has a passion for everything events, from small intimate productions to large scale public celebrations. Nick joined Skylighter in 2011 after working for a major event infrastructure company specialising in logistics and event project management. His experience has also allowed him to guest lecture at the University of Queensland’s Tourism and Events program. His local knowledge and vast experience in sports pyrotechnic presentation and large scale fireworks events makes him a valuable addition to any event. Nick has worked with Max on other events for over 10 years and recently completed a tour with Cricket Australia providing the Pyrotechnics in Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne.
Nick leads a great team of local pyrotechnicians and warehouse staff, who together work in synergy with event management and production teams to ensure that every phase of the project results in an effective and spectacular pyrotechnic performance.
With over 40 years experience in the industry, Ian is Australia’s longest licenced Pyrotechnician. He has been at the helm of many noted milestones in Australia’s Pyrotechnic history—including the inaugural fireworks display on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the firing of the first 24” shell in Australia. Ian was also commissioned to design and synchronise Australia’s longest fireworks display which ran for 16.4km.
Ian was the first Australian to be on the board of an International Fireworks Competition as Project Manager and Technical Director for the prestigious Macau International Fireworks Display Contest.
Under Ian’s direction, FIREWORX was invited to compete at several renowned International Fireworks Display Competitions around the world—including Montreal, France and the Philippines—receiving placings and/or Judges Nominations throughout.
Jodie Riedel-Carter—Display Coordinator
Born into the Riedel Pyrotechnics legacy, Jodie grew up falling asleep to the soothing sounds of fireworks exploding in the sky around her.
After finishing school and studies, Jodie joined the family team—where her knowledge and experience made her an invaluable asset.
As Display Coordinator, Jodie is involved with each display from the beginning to the end; with a focus on the Licencing and Permits for the displays with the Qld Government Department of Natural Resources & Mines and other agencies.
Jodie works closely with the DNRM as their chosen Industry relation for adaptation of new processes and forms; and sits on the Qld Fireworks Advisory Committee.
Darren Rooney—Operations Manager
Darren joined the Fireworks Industry during the Millennium Celebrations of 1999/2000, then coming on board full-time for the Sydney 2000 Olympics Celebrations. Darren’s expertise and knowledge has taken him all over Australia performing fireworks for various festivals, shows, corporate and sporting events; and to numerous parts of the globe, as Operations Manager to Australian teams competing in International Competitions.
Darren is also our resident builder. Darren has been responsible for building some of Australia’s most elaborate custom builds with Pyrotechnics and effects. As Operations Manager, Darren is responsible for the day-to-day Operations of the displays, equipment, preparation and programming of displays.
Denzil Brunner—Financial Controller
Denzil is one of the Directors of Skylighter FireworX and a Chartered Accountant. Denzil’s experience is second to none with administration, leading some of Australia’s largest and most successful bathroom fixture companies.
Denzil is also an experienced pyrotechnician working on some of Australia’s largest events including Brisbane New Year’s Eve, Riverfire and State of Origin.
Rob Fairbanks—Designer/Project Manager
Rob has more than 25 years experience in the pyrotechnic industry. Rob is the brains behind the choreography of some of our biggest overseas displays. Robs focus on designing, producing and delivering innovative fireworks displays makes him a master in his field. Rob has worked on displays over the last 25 years in Macau, the Philippines, Kuala Lumpur, New Guinea, Canada and here in Australia.
