Skylighter used a massive drone to fly the Australian flag at Ekka 2025!
There’s nothing quite like hearing the Australian National Anthem at Ekka each night. In 2025, that special moment was taken sky-high.
As part of the Ekkanites program, Skylighter was proud to deliver a 6-metre Australian flag flown high above the Main Arena, suspended beneath one of our specially modified large-format drones. The result was a breathtaking scene: the flag illuminated against the night sky, flying steady as thousands of voices joined together in song.
A Custom Drone Solution for a National Ekka Moment
This wasn’t a standard drone flight. To bring this vision to life, our team designed and tested a custom rig system that safely suspended the flag beneath the drone. Every detail was engineered for precision and safety – from weight distribution and vibration control through to wind resistance and built-in redundancies.
Before a single flight, the system was fully modelled, trialled, and signed off – ensuring a smooth and stable display, night after night.
