Skylighter presented ‘Great Southern Lands’ at the 33rd International Fireworks Competition in Macau.

Skylighter Fireworks proudly returned to the northern hemisphere competition circuit with our hallmark show ‘Great Southern Lands’ at the 33rd International Fireworks Competition, held over the Bay of Macau. Having last competed in 2014 – where we were awarded Second Runner Up and the People’s Champion – it was a pleasure to return and showcase Australian creativity on one of the world’s most prestigious stages for outdoor fireworks.

Delivered as a large-scale barge display, the show opened with Mitch Tambo’s stirring performance of ‘Great Southern Land’.

Long silver comet tails and shimmering white strobe shells evoked the ancient presence of the land.

INXS’s ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ followed with delicate blue and silver willow shells, slowly fading to symbolise unity and connection.

Emotional depth was explored through Amy Shark’s ‘Mess Her Up’ and Cyrill feat. Dean Lewis’s ‘Fall at Your Feet’, mirrored by soft peony bursts and crackling pistils that reflected human vulnerability and story.

The Cat Empire’s ‘Thunder Rumbles” shifted the rhythm with rolling thunder shells and ghost rings that echoed coastal storms, before King Stingray’s ‘Under One Sun’ filled the sky with layered multi-level rings and vibrant transitions – a celebration of Australia’s cultural diversity under a shared sky.

The finale, set to Sia’s ‘Unstoppable’, cascaded in brilliant green willows melting into gold chrysanthemums, embodying Australia’s strength, unity, and unstoppable spirit.

On the ground, Lead Pyrotechnician Harrison Smith, supported by Fiona Brown and Shanan Withers, expertly executed the display, representing Skylighter and Australia with precision and artistry.

Skylighter’s Great Southern Lands was more than just a barge display.

It was a tribute to Australian identity, artistry, and connection, proudly presented as part of the 33rd International Fireworks Competition in Macau.
