VP-80 Sky Salute: A Pyromusical Tribute

VP-80 Sky Salute: A Pyromusical Tribute
Fireworks

Skylighter presented a large-scale pyromusical commemorating 80 years since Victory in the Pacific and the end of World War II.

On the weekend, Townsville’s Strand was lit with colour and sound as Skylighter Fireworks delivered the VP-80 Sky Salute!

For us, this was more than just another display. Fireworks have always had the power to bring communities together, to mark moments of reflection while also celebrating resilience and unity. The VP-80 Sky Salute was designed to do exactly that – a fitting tribute to history, delivered through the spectacle of light and sound.

A Fireworks Display Design of Scale and Impact

The display was designed by Harrison Smith, whose creative vision paired high-calibre shells with sweeping angles to cover the full width of the Strand. This expansive canvas allowed the audience to experience the show as a shared moment, stretching from horizon to horizon.

Set to a thrilling soundscape curated by Triple M Townsville, the pyromusical combined carefully synchronised effects with music that carried both weight and emotion – a perfect blend of ceremony and spectacle.

Collaboration and Delivery

Bringing the VP-80 Sky Salute to life was a true partnership. Skylighter was proud to work alongside Townsville City Council and Triple M Townsville, both of whom played a central role in shaping the event.

Behind the scenes, the project was delivered by Skylighter’s experienced team: Rob Fairbank (North Queensland Manager), Nick Mitri (Director), and Shanan Withers (Pyrotechnician), led on by Project Manager Dale Norris. Their combined expertise ensured flawless execution and a show that resonated with the occasion.

A Fitting Fireworks Salute to Honour History

The VP-80 Sky Salute was more than a fireworks display – it was a moment of collective remembrance, honouring history while showcasing the power of live events to unite and inspire. For Skylighter Fireworks, it was both a privilege and a proud milestone, demonstrating our commitment to delivering experiences that are as meaningful as they are spectacular.
